Unknown Speaker 0:21
better than I was the last time, baby, we back,
Speaker 3 0:38
we back and we back and we back and we back and we back and we back. Good morning, Las Vegas, hey, it is, oh, my god, y'all it. Can y'all believe it's almost the end of November? We are almost at Thanksgiving. Hi. My name is Leah Crawford. You are listening to growth and grace my co host, Tiffany Lloyd, Tiffany, I miss you. I miss you, but I have an amazing guest in the studio with me today. Um, Rodney has been here before, and he's graced us again with his presence. Hi, Mr. Taylor, how are you? Oh, how are you doing? Mr. UNLV graduate, yes, yes. Various, so what's going on, Rodney, how you been?
Speaker 1 1:22
I have been great. I mean, a lot of things have gone on since we last talked
Speaker 3 1:27
a lot of things, happy to be here. Happy to be here. All right, so let's talk about, well, first of all, who is, who is? Rodney Taylor, Rodney
Speaker 1 1:32
Taylor, well, who is chosen for success? Who is, who is chosen for your nonprofit organization? We help people that are coming out of the community, out of incarceration, reintegrate back into the
Speaker 3 1:45
community. So it's chosen for success. Chosen. I love the name. Where'd you get that name from?
Speaker 1 1:52
You know what I got it? Actually got it from the Bible. Chosen. Those that are chosen,
Speaker 3 1:58
those are the chosen. Yes, God, I see. I wish Tiffany was here, because Tiffany, yeah, I wish Tiffany was here see TIFF. You need see TIFF. I miss you. I miss you. I miss you because you would ate all that up. She would have, she would have so chosen for success. Why did you start it?
Speaker 1 2:12
I started while I was incarcerated. I was helping some guys that were incarcerated. My background is in, uh, emotional intelligence. I was emotional intelligence coach for almost 15 years. All of a sudden I look around and I'm incarcerated, you know, behind bars. And I'm like, Okay, what should I do when I'm here? I have absolutely nothing to do but watch TV and sleep. So I figure, you know what? Let me start helping people with, you know, help them reintegrate back into the community? Started with setting them up on 90 day plans, and started writing out their 90 day plans. And then one gentleman asked me, Well, can you do a business plan? I
Unknown Speaker 2:54
said, Well, yeah, I
Speaker 1 2:55
can do a business plan. I wrote this gentleman a business plan that you would not believe. It was like, Wow. I wish I had a copy machine, because I
Speaker 3 3:05
would say, in prison, you can't, you know, you don't have your phone, so you can't Snapchat. But he
Speaker 1 3:11
it was, like, a 10 page business plan. It was incredible. And I was like, Wow. You know, this is great. I'm like, You know what? I probably should make myself a business plan. I said, you know, I really enjoy helping these guys that are incarcerated, helping, you know, see possibilities in their life, get a vision for their life. So I said, You know what? Let me write a business plan for myself. And I started writing my business plan. It was like my hand would was moving, and I had, didn't, you know, the words that were that would be written. And by after 20 page later, I saw this business plan that was, like, incredible, the most incredible business plan I've ever written. And obviously it wasn't for me, but it was from God. And the thing is, it showed me and actually walked me through the next 10 years of how I'm going to make support men and women that are coming out of the system, whether it be incarceration, foster care, homelessness, poverty, single parent. Show them how to make them make their way to the middle class,
Speaker 3 4:10
a path to the middle chosen for success, a path to the middle class. That's correct, a path to the middle class. So whatever your situation is, it's a path, because it is a path. And you have to have a plan. Gotta have a plan. Gotta have a plan. Because if you don't have a plan, the plan will be set out for you. Oh,
Speaker 1 4:26
yeah, I tell people this, if it either you have a vision for your life or someone else will, and if someone else has a vision for your life, it probably won't lead you down the place or take it the place you want to go,
Speaker 3 4:39
right? So you got a plan, and then you got to create your own create your own plan. So let's dig into that, because I like that. Before I do that, you listening to growth and grace. I am Leah Crawford, and we have Rodney Taylor in the studio with you, and we are going to talk about, how do you plan your life? Let's talk about the plan. Let's quickly. How do you plan your life? So what are some of the questions that you may ask? So I'm say I'm in transition, and with transition comes a lot of emotions, huge, and we don't talk about those emotions, the feeling of failure, the fear of not knowing you may be homeless or unhoused, and then you may have some other responsibilities and life changes, and they can take you into a depression,
Unknown Speaker 5:26
huge, huge depression.
Speaker 3 5:28
So how, what do you do? How you meet me and I am here? How do you help that person navigate?
Speaker 1 5:38
Well, I'll stay in our workshop. We actually show people how to do this. Okay, um, our, one of our taglines is dream, declare and deliver. So let's
Unknown Speaker 5:47
say that again, dream, declare
Speaker 1 5:49
and deliver. So the thing is, what we teach people how to dream again, um, many times. The reason why people are gonna fall into in the dire circumstances is that they lost sight of their vision. So we had they have an opportunity to dream again, because that's what they thought they've lost. So the question that we ask is is very simple questions, what do you want, what do you want? And we keep asking, What do you want, what
Speaker 3 6:18
do you want? And what are some of the responses that sometimes you
Speaker 1 6:23
get, most people that are in our classes, when we talk about what do you want? People say? No one's ever asked me that I would,
Speaker 3 6:30
because I'm sitting here thinking to my I'm like, Well, I can get you a whole list, but I've been thinking about this for for decades. But that is a hard question. It's
Speaker 1 6:39
a tough question. That's a tough question. We're used to answering the question of things that we don't want. I don't want this. I don't want that. I want those. But the thing is, what is it that you want? And when we start paring down what they want, all kinds of things come to the surface, and it's a three day process. You know, we got so it takes three days. We gotta drill. We have to drill to get that
Speaker 3 7:03
three days to drive into what do you want, absolutely,
Speaker 1 7:07
to get the clear picture of what you want, because you get, because it has to be clear, has to be clear, has to be clear, 100% that your intention has to be so it has to be so clear that you, you're you're basically stepping into it, and you're observing what you're seeing, and you're coming back to the present and actually talking about what you saw. So
Speaker 3 7:30
you have an out of body experiences, similar, yeah, you have an out of body experience. Yes, you're seeing it in your dream.
Speaker 1 7:35
You're seeing it before you can have anything. You have to see it first. You
Speaker 3 7:39
gotta see it first. And it has to be clear. It has to be clear. You have to see
Speaker 1 7:43
it. And that's the only way it can happen if you everything, everything you see around you, us right now, someone, someone had to declare it, someone had to see it and actually speak it out.
Speaker 3 7:54
Wow. Because if you and that, that's funny, it's like, I've had other guests on talking about living your life on purpose. Oh, it has to be perfect and not just existing, no. Because when you're existing, you're lackluster. You know, every day you really don't have a goal. But when you have a goal and a vision, you walk with a different you
Speaker 1 8:12
walk with a different intention. Intention 100% and this is a reason the people that come through our class, Well, right now we, we've, we've worked with over 10,000 individuals. Oh, wow. And according to the Clark County Detention Center, we have an 84% success rate.
Unknown Speaker 8:29
Oh, so what does that mean?
Speaker 1 8:33
Recidivism, job, job, sustainability and moving into that middle class,
Speaker 3 8:40
all right. Well, then listen, okay, so what do you want? So you ask me, What do I want? Do you find that sometimes the first responses are material things?
Speaker 1 8:48
That's fine, okay? But I keep going, what do you want? We keep asking that question, and at some point, I mean, as we go through this process of what do you want, it's amazing what comes out. Trust me, there's a lot more things happening to pull it out. We have to. We have to. We're tapping into our unconscious mind when we go through these processes. And well, in our workshops, we're making the conscious mind go to sleep for a minute. And actually, we're talking to the unconscious. And there's a huge process to get there. And once a person has the trust, they allow you to come in, and they allow and then they start sharing that
Speaker 3 9:27
information. Let's talk about trust. Because you're dealing with, you're in a you're in a place where trust is low. Oh, there's no trust. There is right? I've got, didn't want to say no, yeah. So, no, no, okay, so no trust. Many
Speaker 1 9:42
people have been hurt. They've been let down. They've been made promises that weren't kept. All these things have happened, and those are just reasons. I mean, those are just, we call them excuses, I mean, but the thing or symptoms, yeah, but we don't, we don't allow them, we don't allow them to stay there. I mean, you can't. You can't hover there we were. We talking possibilities. I mean, so the thing is, when I, when I first started this, this program, we let me back up. I'm from South Central LA Compton and and this type of process, and this type of information I'd never heard of, and I was like, wow, I wish I had this information when I was, you know, 1516, 1718, 1920,
Speaker 3 10:24
but would you listen? Would you I was getting ready to say I'm because I got a 14 year old actively in the house, and I just, I had to go to get his hearing check. I said, let's go get your hearing checked out. He said, What do you mean? We'll get you here and checked out. Because I say stuff to you and you don't listen, and I need to make sure you can hear first before I start acting crazy. So and I did the same thing. It's funny. I did the same thing for my daughter. I'm like, let me just get your hearing checked out, because I just want to make sure you I want the doctor to tell us, tell me that you can hear well, us, because I want to see the test. See you raise your hand. I think that's all teenagers, right. That's all teenagers, right? Teenagers.
Speaker 1 10:58
My son's entering the teenage realm, and I'm like, Oh my
Speaker 3 11:02
God, oh yeah, no, it's interesting. But okay, so this information, so going through this back up, going through this process, yes, where? Where does this process start? Just real quickly. The
Speaker 1 11:13
process starts with the commitment, okay? Them saying, Yes, I want to. I want to. I want different. Okay? And them saying, I want different opens up possibilities. We say, you know, coming to class, we say, trust the process. Just trust the process. We're judgment creatures, so we're very much constantly judging. So the thing is, I said, Let's not judge. You got three days this for three days, let's set the judgment aside and just trust the process.
Speaker 3 11:41
Do you house them or do they go home? They go each day, they call each day.
Speaker 1 11:46
So they get, they get to put it in practice, everything that they've learned. And we and we always ask them to share Well, so what was there any learning that you know after the class, they always come up with
Speaker 3 11:57
learning. Have you ever thought about taking it and like doing a retreat, where they have where their house for three days, and they have the process, and then, since they don't go home, they get to sit in it, I like it, and let it and let it marinate, and they interact with each other in a different way, not in a setting, and then come back the next day and just have these breakthroughs. The reason why I ask, because I they're like Silent retreats, different retreats, right? That people do, especially when you want to have that breakthrough. Well,
Speaker 1 12:34
when you talk about breakthrough, that's what it's about, right? I mean, breaking through the past trauma, that's huge those, those are barriers that hold you back,
Unknown Speaker 12:42
and you can't do anything to change it, no. And
Unknown Speaker 12:44
you know what, you don't know about it. Many times.
Unknown Speaker 12:46
You don't know about it many times, okay, yeah,
Speaker 1 12:49
most time you have no clue about it. But most of the people in your circle or that around you, they know about it. Got
Unknown Speaker 12:57
it, got it. They know about it. Yeah,
Unknown Speaker 12:58
they can see it. Oh,
Speaker 3 13:00
wow. Well, huh. But when you see somebody going through past traumas, do you say something, or do you just,
Unknown Speaker 13:10
I mean, in the class or in the workshop, or,
Speaker 3 13:13
I mean, just, let's, let's talk about in general. So you know somebody that's going through, you see something, and you have been through some stuff, so you see them and you can identify, Okay, so that's what they call mommy issues, or That's daddy issues, or that some kind of trauma. Do you say something, or do you you just say Hmm, and you and you understand it and move on, just because you've had all this experience now. And this is sidebar, and we'll get back.
Speaker 1 13:42
That's sidebar. Okay, the sidebar is, we, in our class, we always teach before you give any type of feedback to anyone, the first thing you need to do is ask for permission. You have to ask for permission.
Unknown Speaker 13:55
Okay, so you're asking for permission. So for example,
Speaker 1 13:59
I see something in you right now. And I said, You know what? I have a I have a question that I want to ask you. It's kind of personal. Is that okay? And you have an opportunity to say yes or no. If you say yes, I continue with that. You know my feedback. If you say no, I back up. So if you know, right now is not the time. So either way, the key to all of this is opening the door to talk to somebody about something that's personal. It's asking for permission. First,
Speaker 3 14:29
asking for permission first, absolutely and when you ask for permission, does that take them into a different mindset? By asking for permission, they're
Speaker 1 14:40
prepared. You're not just throwing up on them. You're not just you're not just giving them the information that they didn't ask for. You're letting them know that something may be coming, that that you may maybe uncomfortable, maybe uncomfortable. Are you prepared for this? Are you okay? So you're giving them the opportunity to prepare, prepare themselves.
Speaker 3 14:59
Helps, right? And then when they prepare themselves, that might stop them from throwing the temper tantrum,
Speaker 1 15:04
they won't have a temperature because they agree to it. And at any point, they can say, You know what? That's too personal. I don't want to talk about that. And you give them the space and latitude to do that, so you learn how to communicate. 100 it's all about communication. All about communication, yes, asking powerful questions and communicating. All right, so
Speaker 3 15:19
you've been listening to um growth and grace. I am Leah Crawford. I am sitting here with Rodney Taylor, and we are talking about his um, his program chosen for success. And while he's walking me, he's walking us through just the process of really understanding what do you want? And while it may seem like a simple question, a lot of us really don't know what we want. And he's working with a population that has been in transition, and different types of transition, so we're going to get more feedback and dig more and dig deeper into this. So what do you want? All right? So you start, you ask, and they start, do they journal? Do you bring journals to get it out? Or how do they get how do they start to write the information down as they start? That's
Speaker 1 16:11
interesting that you say that, because in our class, there's no taking notes. Wow, there's no taking notes, no taking okay? And the reason being is we want them to be 100% present. Because
Speaker 3 16:25
if you take notes, you might because you're sitting there trying to write it down and write it out so you might lose you lose information you're not present
Speaker 1 16:32
at the think more, more things are happening while you're taking notes, and you're missing the things that are happening because you're taking notes about something that happened in
Speaker 3 16:39
the past. Wow. So you basically make retraining their brains at the same time, absolutely stay in the present. Gotta stay present. Stay
Unknown Speaker 16:46
present.
Unknown Speaker 16:46
Stay active, stay here.
Speaker 1 16:48
Yeah, stay with us. Ray, stay with us. Yes, okay, but it's funny, this we do experiential teaching, so all of the teaching that they've learned they can always recall, which is kind of interesting. People say, Well, how can you do that? Well, if I ask someone, you know, we always start off the class by asking this question, how many of you remember the first time you rode a bike? And pretty much everybody raised their hand. I remember. Okay, I remember. I remember
Speaker 3 17:19
the first time. I remember a time when around one of them. First time was the first time. I remember the first you remember the first time? Okay,
Speaker 1 17:27
and that was over some decades. But the thing is, that happened so long ago. How can I remember that? Because I don't remember anything else that happened that day, but I remember the day that I rode that by. Do
Speaker 3 17:44
you believe that in our because we are amazed our mind, our subconscious mind, is amazing, yes. And it records everything, everything, and it keeps track of everything, catalogs, catalog. Well, yeah, that's if you got, you know, depending on who you are, if it's catalog certain things, because they talk about triggers 100% and different, and you got to understand what is the trigger. Now, do you help them to deal with the trauma during this three day
Speaker 1 18:14
process? We help them break through the trauma. Hmm. So we help them break through all the trauma, from zero to eight years old, and most of the trauma, that's when most of the trauma took place. That's when pretty much every our lives was kind of set in this in a certain path. It's zero to eight years old. 83% of everything that we've learned and everything that we believe, all of our values, take place between zero and eight years
Speaker 3 18:38
old. And you're saying that, but, but we can change that. You can't
Speaker 1 18:42
change it, but you can add to it. You can add to it. You can modify it. Yes, yes. Modify it, yes. There's techniques to do that as well. Techniques
Speaker 3 18:48
to do that as well. Okay, so give us a contact number. So now let me, if someone is not in transition, are they able to take advantage of this program?
Speaker 1 18:57
If someone's not in transition, they can take advantage of the program. And we'll we'll give them that type of information when they give us a call.
Unknown Speaker 19:04
Okay, so
Unknown Speaker 19:05
what's your contact information? 70267286541, more time, 702-672-8654,
Unknown Speaker 19:18
all right, so three days. How often do you offer this
Speaker 1 19:20
program once a month. Oh, beginning of every month. Beginning.
Speaker 3 19:24
Okay, so you begin a new month. Now. What if? How many times can someone take this over again? Because,
Unknown Speaker 19:32
great question. Well,
Speaker 3 19:33
the reason why I asked because I was some, you know, some classes I had to take twice. Yes, I didn't learn to ride that bike on the first day, I had people practicing to keep practicing before I didn't fall off. Right, right?
Speaker 1 19:43
Say, with the baby walking, no, don't walk the face.
Speaker 3 19:47
They don't. I mean, because if I, you know, I, they don't. Some of them start crawling backwards first, before they crawl forwards. It's depending on the person. So what if I have to come back again? Because we've had people
Speaker 1 19:58
audit the class. Yeah. Okay. Yes, so that, I mean, that's not a problem. So is it over the weekend? Is it's during the week? Usually we start on a Monday and we end on Wednesday. After that, we'd go into vocational training on when on Thursday and Friday. And what type of vocational training do you do right now? We're doing audio, visual audio, video and stage hand
Speaker 3 20:18
audio. Okay, so basically, they can, we come in, have some trauma breakthrough, has some breakthrough, and then we do the audit. Got it trauma bonds? Have you noticed that a lot of people have trauma bonds, like they could be an unhealthy relationship, when they come in unhealthy relationships, because I understand maybe incarcerated. They may not be in a relationship, but homeless, unhoused, not homeless unhoused, they may be in some type of trauma bond with someone 100%
Speaker 1 20:52
the thing is, once you discover what you what you want, we do take processes to show you to create the vision for yourself. What I like about the vision is it's almost like you get tunnel vision. Everything that happens outside of that vision, outside of the scope of the vision. You can't see everything that that's within the scope of that vision, moving you towards that vision. That's what you're focusing on. So all those other things kind of fall to the side. So it's an awesome way to to use that vision as your north star as you, as you traverse life, yeah,
Speaker 3 21:27
your North Star. Because some, I mean, you said that you have a 84% success rate after they've experienced some site, some type of success on their road to the middle class, because it's possible. Are you guys also helping with home ownership, or helping them with home ownership? Because getting a job is one thing. Now we're talking about home and do you partner with other programs? Yes,
Unknown Speaker 21:57
we partner with many different programs. You
Unknown Speaker 22:00
have to name them. Okay, yeah. Do you do partner with any program, many
Speaker 1 22:03
the largest organizations and how we partner with we also have our own transitional housing for us to support those individuals coming out of the system as well. We always I talk about system. Poverty is a system as well. Poverty is a system. So if you're coming transitioning out of poverty, you qualify as well. Got
Speaker 3 22:24
it all right, so I love it. So you've been listening to growth and grace, and we are sitting here with Rodney Taylor talking about his program chosen for success. And really try to dig deep into how do you you know? How do you answer the question, question, what do you want where it might seem like, Oh, I know that, but when you really have to sit in it for three days, you might find that what you think you wanted is not what you really wanted. It could be something totally different. Now, you also said in prison you were helping people map out the three year plan. Yes, is that also a part of the program? Yes. So how we map it out with no pen and paper? I'm asking. I'm just curious. Minds want to know
Speaker 1 23:08
the last the last day is about two, four hours into it, that's the pinnacle. That's when you get to write. That's when I get to you get to write. You get to have your pen and
Speaker 3 23:19
paper. Okay? Have my pen and paper. Yes, but now you get to sit down. Now, do you do something where? Well, explain it to me so I don't have to guess, because I have my, you know, my whole, my whole brain went to a whole different place.
Speaker 1 23:30
Gotcha. Well, we don't talk about the training because we want to make sure that it's spontaneous, that that as things happen experientially, you're you're free to to respond the way that you normally would respond, and that shows actually the trauma that's inside of you. So you're actually able to see how you respond to different stimuli, and how you respond in the class is generally how you respond outside of the class, so you're not hiding. So the nice thing is that once it comes out, you ask yourself the question, is this working for me or is working against me? Is it moving me closer to my vision or further away from my vision? If it's moving further away, you have an opportunity to change it. If it's moving you closer to Let's do more of it.
Speaker 3 24:15
I love that, and it's coming from a place of love. It sounds like 100% love coming from a place of love. So listen, love. I want the best all day, every day. I want the best for you, absolutely, absolutely. And you define what that best is. Yeah,
Speaker 1 24:28
exactly. I don't set the road back for you. You set your own role back, and
Speaker 3 24:32
I just give you now and then I'm actually, I don't want to add words in, so I'm gonna ask, do it in the form of a question, do you assist them if they come up against, like, say, after the program, I have my plan, but then I have some roadblocks. Absolutely.
Speaker 1 24:47
There was a gentleman that came through our class, and he actually, we got him a great job. He was working in a five star restaurant. He's working his job. And he said, You know, I. Need to quit. And he gave me all the reasons why, and I said, Okay, well, you committed to once again. We back to the commitment. You committed to one year. I said, Why don't we? Why don't you stay the full year and then make a decision? Well, by the time that year came about, he had gotten two promotions, three pay increases. And he was like, I think I'll stay well.
Speaker 3 25:28
And the thing of it, we always talk about the success stories. What about that other 16% what have you seen? What have you seen happen with them? What
Speaker 1 25:36
the other 16% if they go through the class they've got, they're going to get something out of it. Okay? And for us, it's just, it's not, it's not their time. Yet, everybody's on their journey. We give them the tools that they can help them through their journey. But if they're not ready to embark upon this, this cruise ship, you know, there's another one. There's others out there, our thing is to make sure that they are, they're 100% successful. There's been people who've left and came back, and we supported them in becoming again, moving quickly to the middle class. So it's, it's just their timing and no judgment, no not at all. No judgment, no judgment at all. And that's, it's your journey. Guess what? If it's not now, maybe a year from now, five years from now, 10 years from now, whenever that time is, guess what, we'll be here for you.
Speaker 3 26:24
I appreciate that. So you're listening to growth and grace, and we are having a conversation with Rodney Taylor about his program chosen for success, and just talking about people in transition. And sometimes in transition, you need that safe space in order to be the best version of you. I am Leah Crawford and Briony as always, I want to thank you. Thank you for coming on sharing your program. I know this brought up your third or fourth time on the show. Yes, third or fourth time. So I want to say thank you, because I appreciate the fact that you come on the show. Take time out of your day to share with our listeners about the program.
