Music 0:18
even better than I was

Music 0:19
the last time, baby. We back and

Music 0:35
we back and we back and we back and we back and we back. And I was the last you, hey,

Leaha Crawford 0:43
hey, hey, hey, happy. Saturday, Las Vegas, wow. Julian, June is almost over. Did you see the game Sunday? Oh, my

Julian Rosado 0:55
God, disappointing. Yes, yes, I'm sorry for you. I was, I was excited. Oh, man, yeah, how can you be how the main player was and they were up, they were up before the halftime. You know that? Okay? You give me that face like, you know, I'm

Leaha Crawford 1:13
sorry I wanted OKC to win, and I hate

Julian Rosado 1:17
now you have a prayers ring with a with an asterisk on it. Okay,

Leaha Crawford 1:22
so a ring with an asterisk? Oh, wow. Okay, so let me tell you why I like OKC, and it showed afterwards when they were talking about their team culture and how everyone supports everyone. It's a healthy culture, and a lot of times in sports is competitive and sometimes it's not healthy, yeah, more like toxic, right? Yeah. And how they, before they even talked about the the winning, they were sending, you know, just, just prayers to Halliburton, how SGA went out on when he was down, he put his hand on him. So a team that cares, that's why I wanted OKC, because I saw it early on, and it's a young team. They're all young team, and it's a young

Julian Rosado 2:10
team celebration. But wait a minute, let me know how to open the champagne bottle. I

Leaha Crawford 2:14
understand, right? But, but,

Leaha Crawford 2:16
but listen to this, though, right? Even, even in that them being a young team, but a young team that wasn't there, not those deep, I mean, not those first draft picks. It was second draft picks, G league players, it was all these people that put together to have this synergy. Yeah, synergy to me.

Leaha Crawford 2:36
I like the story, General Manager pick, yeah,

Leaha Crawford 2:38
the general manager was amazed. I mean, I just, I like, I did. I like, OKC. And you know, I am, I am a Sixers fan, yeah? But it was just good to see a small market, a small market, young franchise, not the big cities, win a championship, yeah, and it went seven games,

Julian Rosado 2:55
yeah, I think you'll be amazing. A really great story when Halliburton comes back. Because this was, this was, you know, everybody wanted to see that, you know.

Leaha Crawford 3:06
And I'm sure he will. I'm sure he will, you know, give him some time to take care of himself and, ya know, and get better. He's gonna be out the whole year. I know he's gonna be because that's, that's a serious injury. I didn't realize it takes that long. No, someone was, someone

Leaha Crawford 3:19
else was telling me, I think Klay Thompson, yeah, the same injury for Golden State Warriors, yeah. And but what I can say is, what I love about especially with those type of injuries, take the time to heal your body,

Julian Rosado 3:31
yeah? Because you only have one body and do a lot of overload, right?

Leaha Crawford 3:35
Take the time heal your body and stuff like that. But enough about that. We have some amazing guests in the studio with us today. So what I'm gonna do is around Robin, because we got a four got a full studio. Well, we got a full studio today, so I'm going to start. I'm gonna go to my left, because, y'all, I got dentists in the building, huh? I got dentists. We're gonna talk about teeth and how important teeth are, huh? And we might even continue this conversation next week, because it's going to be a good one. Oh, yeah, all right. So come on, introduce

Derek Winn 4:00
yourself. So my name is Derek, when I'm one of the co founders and partners of parks dentistry with my partner, Justin win.

Leaha Crawford 4:06
Welcome to the show. Thank you for having us. Who we got over here.

Justin Nguyen 4:10
That's Justin, when the other partner in parks industry,

Leaha Crawford 4:15
hey, win and win, win and win, different win, win, win, win. I love it. And when you're talking about, you know, because I get anxiety. Don't get anxiety about a lot of things, but when it comes to the dentist, it's something about the sound of the drill. It's just the sound of the drill.

Justin Nguyen 4:30
Honestly, I'm right there with you. Okay, I'm nervous about that. I mean, you'd be nervous about teeth. I nervous about being on a radio show.

Leaha Crawford 4:39
How about that? Well, Said, and then we have

Xan 4:43
Zan and Jonathan from afenoderm. We're glad to be back.

Jonathan 4:46
Yes, hey, hey, hey, thank you for having us back.

Leaha Crawford 4:50
Y'all did want an introduction together? I love it. I love it, all right, so let's, let's dive right in. Derek, well, Dr Wynn,

Derek Winn 4:59
no. No, no, no, not a doctor. No, I'm just one of the partners. So, okay, fun. Interesting fact about me is I quit. Before I finished, I learned that I could probably help doctors be better doctors if I wasn't one myself.

Leaha Crawford 5:12
I appreciate that. Thank you, Sister, thank you. We I love it. I love it. So why? Vegas?

Derek Winn 5:22
It was a happy accident. I was brought here to I was working in corporate dentistry at the time. I was brought here with an organization to kind of take over and oversee part of the market here. There was a doctor that needed a little bit of guidance in terms of business acumen. So it was kind of my first big trial, moving into a larger market and moved here. I fell in love my son, went to the meadows High School, graduated from there, fell in love with the culture. I fell in love with the community, and then met my very best friend. And anytime that I've tried to walk out the door and get away from here, this one's called me back and said, No, absolutely not. Let's do it. Let's let's do something different. And so that's kind of what Parks was born of. Was the idea of walking away from corporate dentistry. We were, both of us, I think, had been in it long enough that we decided it was time to start treating people like patients, not like dollars. And so that's where the idea and kind of the foundation and core values of Parks was was founded and built upon. I

Leaha Crawford 6:23
appreciate that. I appreciate that, and so. Dr win, that's me. Okay. Dr win, okay, got it right that time. Dr win. Dr win, well, you're from, vague, no, you're not from

Justin Nguyen 6:34
vacant. No. I was born in LA. I grew up in Phoenix, Arizona, and then I moved here for dental school, and then I stayed here ever since. So never leave Vegas. Never leave Vegas. So you kind of just fall in love with it, and just you stay and you try to go somewhere else, and all of a sudden, nothing feels right. Okay. Why dentistry, though? Why dentistry? I mean, is it enough to say I like it? It's a place where you can really help people. It's a place where it's just cool. There's a lot of new technology going on, and we look really like to bring that all into our practice and build all that up. And it's just nice to treat people the way that they should be treated. We always know that the dentistry is very scary place, and we want to make dentistry less scary. It doesn't have to be scary. It should be a place where things get

Leaha Crawford 7:18
better. Love it. Love it, yeah, you had a question.

Julian Rosado 7:21
No, no, okay,

Leaha Crawford 7:24
all right, so I love that well, and

Jonathan 7:27
that was one of the reasons why we fell in love with them, because our patients were patients of theirs, and this is how the synergy just kind of fell on our plate. It was a beautiful mindset. And as LGBT business owners, we have focused on a making sure that everybody feels valid. Everybody has a voice to be heard, everybody has a space to be safe in, and that was how we built affiniderm. And now that we've rebranded into affiniderm, it's given us more opportunities and more partnerships, and we reached out to another LGBT owned business and fell in love with their mindset. And they were doing injectables for esthetics. And it was kind of like a no brainer once we kind of met and felt the vibe between us all, the mindset was there the treating patients as patients, not as dollars. Yeah,

Leaha Crawford 8:18
so we gonna introduce yourself first though, yeah.

Jonathan 8:23
Well, you know, we started as desired couture house of beauty years ago. And are you? And we are now afinoderm. What's your name? My name is Jonathan Clancy Nelson. I've recently married my partner here,

Jonathan 8:38
yes.

Jonathan 8:40
So, yes. So, you know, we've talked about how we built the original brand from just ground up, and now we've elevated ourselves. And because of the elevation, came new opportunities and new people and amazing people, the people we're sitting here with today, yeah, I, I will break bread with them any day of the week. They are beautiful souls. They're they're patient care. I've literally undertaken some services myself, and so is then we'll share more about that at a different time with our stories and but the fact is, is that I want people to understand esthetics is where we started, but wellness is where we're finishing. And the looking at his sexy mouth?

Leaha Crawford 9:22
Yeah, you have to see it's nothing. People smile differently. You look different when your teeth. It's all about the teeth. Introduce

Xan 9:31
yourself, yes, well, yes, I'm Zan of the phenoderm, um,

Leaha Crawford 9:35
so say your whole name too. I love it.

Xan 9:37
Zan Clancy Nelson, yes. Yes, this partnership came about for me a lot because we had patients of ours. They know our care. They know what our motivations are, and when they saw and heard they were like, You guys absolutely need to meet. And it was. Like, okay. And it wasn't just one, not even just two, it was like, three people, okay? And this is where it just kept bringing to me, like, Okay, we need to make this a priority. Let's get together and meet. And what we did, we hit it off, great. But the thing that really got me was we went there for my husband, who's always wanted straight teeth, wasn't blessed with it. And I was like, you know, we have this opportunity. Let's, let's go ahead and jump on it. Well, Derek, being the heart that he is, he's like, Well, you're here too. Why don't we go ahead and get you examined,

Jonathan 10:36
and mind you real quick, they have the latest technology when it comes to understanding the inside of your mouth, as we do with the facial scan that we offer. This was another kind of seal for me, is that they had the technology to identify everything that's going wrong and how to treat it, not just to tell you about it, but how to treat it. There's a plan for everything. And when they did this, we got some shocking news, definitely, and but because of the awareness, we possibly saved my husband's life, his mouth was living with infection that we had no clue of. And literally, these people

Xan 11:16
saved my life, I would

Julian Rosado 11:18
agree. So that's why, when you go see a dentist, they say, Well, we have to come in for the actual practice and see everything inside before you get anything done. Because the thing

Xan 11:30
was, if you looked at me, I had a beautiful smile, yeah, it was, it was okay. But you don't know the actual health of the teeth, just because, yeah, white and straight and you can smile confidently. Yeah, the pain and everything else that we talked about, I got used to it so it was normal. And I didn't realize I was living with so much pain. But again, this machine saw all of it, yeah, to the point where the great doctor here said we need to do something now, like their concern was now not oh, let's go ahead and schedule you a month. No, no, no, let's do this now because of what we

Leaha Crawford 12:07
see. And mind you, he had beautiful skin the last time I came, right. Okay, so now we got beautiful skin. We got beautiful skin just the face. Y'all all about the face?

Jonathan 12:17
Yes, all right, okay, so don't judge me on a gym membership, though we're talking about that and I just turned 49 celebrating a new you, a new smile, but understanding that we have to go and see these doctors that are in place. We have to find out the ones that care about us, because if we don't know, how can we fix the situation?

Leaha Crawford 12:41
I love it. Well, you are listening to growth and grace. I am Leah Crawford, this is Julian Rosato, okay, and so we have some look. It's all about the face today. Y'all, it's all about face, because we have the skin care, we have the the oral care in the building, and we're talking about it. So the name of the practice, again, the dental practice. It's parks dentistry. Parks dentistry, and it's located 2840, East Flamingo Road, Suite G, yep. Contact information is 725-250-2840, again, 725-250-2840, and then we have a phenoderm that's in the same

Jonathan 13:17
Yes, because of our new partnership, we have a suite Inside Parks dentistry now that's being custom built, and it's going to be able to offering esthetic services on site at the dentistry location.

Leaha Crawford 13:28
I love it. And contact information is 702702 skin. Can't that 702702 skin,

Jonathan 13:36
real. You're never gonna forget our numbers. Who's

Leaha Crawford 13:39
Vegas? Skin, 702702

Jonathan 13:41
skin. And we still have our original facility over in West Summerlin, over at 8879 West Flamingo suite 101, so we have two locations, magically, both sides of Flamingo covered at east and west, east and west, east and west,

Leaha Crawford 13:57
east and west. Okay, so you just drive down the street. There's no excuse. There's no excuse. Y'all see why I love him.

Jonathan 14:06
Well, we love coming back. You let us have the spotlight you really shine on the purpose of our business, not just to get the next edition out. You really care, and that's why we come back. We really appreciate

Leaha Crawford 14:18
that, and I appreciate having you here. Let's talk about the stories, though. So we got, you know, a little briefly, but let's dig deeper. How did you guys come up with the name? Let's go here first. Yeah. How'd you come up with the name of the book? Because you rebranded. Yes, we did. You rebranded. Why rebrand? Well,

Jonathan 14:36
after experiencing about a couple years with our desire couture house of beauty business and seeing the elevation that we were doing, we've partnered with some amazing business minds, and one in particular ran some numbers and said, Hey, you guys are up here with your quality of service. We need everything else to match. And that means a business name, that means a logo, the next level of business, because

Leaha Crawford 14:57
I want you to say that again, because I. I don't know if a lot of people really understand the name. How important the name of the business?

Jonathan 15:09
Well, I had no clue that they could actually run analytics of success rates based off of a name. And so when we originally, originally were desired couture house of beauty, that's cute. It was fun. It was something that Xan and I personally loved, but on the still very Mom and Pop, and we got like, a 2% ranking, like, verse out of the 10. Like, it's a mouthful. It is, it is, remember. Again, we wanted to be memorable and easy to be thought of. And so when our friend was like, tell me about your brand. What do you do? What is it about that you do? And I was like, Well, I have an affinity for skin. He's like, That's where we're going. He's like, affinider. He's like, this is your brand. This is the success. This is the elevation that it creates. You will be elevated just with that business name change. And within three months that proved itself. We have now elevated ourselves to more members, to more associates, to more alignments, like things have happening because we changed also when we sit in front of a panel. Now we our name starts with a we're the first one, hey. I mean, hey, touching, touching that. So it was beautiful. It was nice to see what we did do, but it was beautiful to see what somebody else saw in our level of business, and they're like, your patient care is top notch. We're not coming for that, but we're going to help elevate your brand to that level. And it's been beautiful. We have a gorgeous new logo, we have beautiful marketing. We have new lasers now that we're offering we're doing laser hair removal. We're doing IPL facials. We've taken the esthetics and leveled up at the same time as we did with the brand.

Leaha Crawford 16:46
I love it. So where did your name come from?

Derek Winn 16:49
So Parks was actually born from a much simpler concept, but it's evolved into so much more. Parks as a whole stands for Paradise, advanced restorative, cosmetic and sedation dentistry. So we did it for SEO optics. You can Google that, search it, you can throw those keywords in and and it makes sense. But we've kind of developed an entire theme around it, not kind of we've we've wholly incorporated parks into everything. Because you think you go to the park to relax your our our motto is literally, make your next trip to the dentist a walk in the parks. And it's, it's cute, it's love that there's again I like that. Make your next trip to the dentist a walk in the

Leaha Crawford 17:30
park. Okay, so all of those, for all of you out there that are like, like, like myself, you know, the sixth that's the fastest six months that goes by, they have to go back to the I'm like, I gotta go back again. Oh, God,

Jonathan 17:42
Leah, once you sit in their chair, that fear is gone. I had that my whole life. I hated the dentist, which is why I never took the initial step to get braces. The fear is gone. I enjoy and not just because I'm gonna be working there, but I enjoyed all of their dental hygienists. They rotate like a well oiled machine. When somebody's back's hurting, they swap them out. It's like, how you doing? Pat, pat, pat, okay, back to work like it is beautiful, this functionality that happens in that treatment room, and they're all aware of your specific needs because of pre consulting. They know what to do, and they know how each other works. And so it's a beautiful thing. All it takes is one time, I promise the fear will go away. Go away, yes,

Derek Winn 18:27
and I have to brag on our team really quick, because we took we took people from different areas and different communities that would have never thought to make dentistry a career. And so our entire team, they were all very green, brand new to the industry, zero training.

Jonathan 18:43
Sometimes that's better. Yeah, based, if I can, yeah, out there,

Derek Winn 18:46
minority based. So we took them, we trained them, and gave them access. And now one of our lead assistant is considering either dental school or hygiene school or, you know, and we want to continue to develop that as we expand our business, we'd like to go for a nationwide platform. It's kind of the same motto. We want to take people that maybe wouldn't have access or even think, to consider that as a career, and go, you can do this, and we'll show you how.

Leaha Crawford 19:10
Okay, Cece, look at that. I'm saying, I'm saying, that's what I'm saying. I mean, because you, you think about the people, because everybody, nobody, well for me, people just want a chance, and you're giving people a chance, and something that is so specialized, right? Because you think about dentists, you think about four years of college, dental school, and then the exam

Justin Nguyen 19:33
keeps going, right? And then you finish dental school, and you're still learning and learning. There's so much more to go, and it's rapidly advancing field, and so, I mean, I'm in class every week still, wow, yep. I take a bunch of continuing education. I'm on webinars. I'm traveling for lectures on stuff. I'm

Jonathan 19:54
again, this, this world that we're in, the people that care are constantly educating themselves. On how to do more, how to offer more. What's the latest technology? Those are the practitioners that we need to be searching for, the ones that are constantly educating themselves and not resting on their laurels, and be like, Oh, that degree says I'm good to go. No, we know that things change,

Leaha Crawford 20:16
that you preach into the choir because I stay in the IRS seminar, reading no for last night, before I went to bed, I was reading about tax, you know, just, you know, different deductions. And I'm like, Okay, here we go again. Yay. This looks like fun, but no, but consistently, because you have to, you have to

Xan 20:34
continue education. If you're not doing it, you're going to be left behind. Okay, like, again, we just came from an event in Scottsdale, and in this industry, again, a lot of the focus is just the face. But we're all about overall wellness. We got quite the education when it came to female wellness, especially in the intimate areas, and we've now started offering those types of treatments. Because, again, we believe in overall wellness.

Jonathan 21:03
I know we said we stop at the face, but

Leaha Crawford 21:05
we don't. We don't we don't know that we were talking about down the body.

Jonathan 21:11
We're having those questions that apparently nobody wants to have with their patients, and people couldn't because well and as gay men hearing about the sexual wellness and healing of a woman post menopausal, we don't this doesn't affect us immediately, or so we thought, and especially we have no answers, right supposed to say or do what we learned over a weekend conference changed the path of what we want to offer. We want to offer overall wellness, topically and esthetically, we have access to now treatments such as the carboxy gel therapy treatment, which is regenerating tissue. Okay, it is helping that, not only in the face everywhere, everywhere for men and women in intimate areas as well, getting people off prescription drugs, getting them on natural healing, letting the body do what it's supposed to do, what it's supposed to do. And as an esthetician, my education was limited, as I thought, but what I realized is that by opening up the mindset, by learning more about your own industry and overall wellness, people will find you that are doing the same thing that you are, just on a different level.

Leaha Crawford 22:21
So you wanna know what's so funny? I didn't tell you I was in a PhD program. No, didn't know that. Okay? And honestly, this the first time I'm actually saying it out loud. My right now, my proposed, I know you knew you sit with me all the time. Proposed, disparate. My dissertation is on wellness. Okay, of black women entrepreneurs, I love that. So that was my first because just talking, I mean, you're talking about wellness, and sometimes what you look like, your mental state, how are you taking care of you? And it could be just that treatment that makes you feel good. You know you're having a clean mouth makes you feel good.

Jonathan 23:02
Yeah, you know, helps you live longer, too, right? And

Leaha Crawford 23:04
we talk, and we'll talk about that. We're gonna start to talk about that, but yeah, just when I when, and in this PhD process, I'm sitting there and I'm like, Well, what I what? Because I was like, No, do I want to do dysfunction? Do I want to do all the other stuff? And I was like, No, I want to do wellness. I want to keep it positive. That's what I want to write my dissertation on this time. And I just I, yeah, no, that's where I am. So

Jonathan 23:31
well, wellness is a huge part of what we're doing and going forward. And by expanding into a dentist office, we are now able to not only see new patients, but offer new services and collaborate even more with their injectables that they do their other doctor, she is amazing. Dr Kim, I have to give you a shout out. She is, Hi doctor, she couldn't be with us here. She's obviously working here. No, you won't know what we're gonna bring. We're gonna get. Dr Kim, and that's Justin's wife. He is literally married to to his practice. I love that, but seriously, being able to be a part of this is beautiful growth, and that's what I feel our community needs, is the opportunities to see what's out there, what treatments are, and these individuals know how to make things happen for you, if you are on a budget, there are financing opportunities that we offer now. There's so many things and that are spilling into our esthetics practice too. So now I can offer more to my clients for a more economical rate for them, which is exciting to me, because I don't want people to say, No, I can't afford you. No, you can afford something if, even if it's the $99 a month, come in once a month for that facial health. We can afford to take care of ourselves, and we should afford to and stay to learn we're worth the investment, and extending that into the mouth, like dental hygiene is so key to your future existence, your confidence. And again, everybody wants to look good. And we always say, you know, stay beautiful, but don't forget to smile either. Everyone

Leaha Crawford 24:58
wants. To look good, the best version of you. Absolutely, the best version of you. Yeah. I

Jonathan 25:05
mean, if you take a look in the mirror in that morning and then you get that confidence glow, your day is set. Your day is set. Preach, bring me an opportunity. I will

Leaha Crawford 25:19
appreciate that. You have anything?

Julian Rosado 25:22
Yeah, I remember I had Invisalign prior for about almost a year, and but before, I didn't want to get I didn't want to do it. It was really expensive, and but a friend of mine, he said, you have to do it. Said you would change everything, because I noticed you don't smile online. Don't smile a lot. You're very, you know, stone and, you know, smile. And then I was like, why? It's too expensive. I'm not gonna do it. And once I did it, I when I was talking to people, I found myself like, just smiling, just to show it off. Yes. And then I found myself like, No, I just like to smile more, yeah. And Doctor, my therapy, or therapist told me, said, when you smile, it it, forget your release, yeah, in you. And then I was like, Ah, okay, okay, okay,

Xan 26:16
coming again. I grew up here in Vegas, and I came from a not well off background, I you know, welfare, all that good stuff. So I look at posts where we're offering these types of help, and some of the comments, oh, it's still this much. Oh, it's still costly. And to me, it breaks my heart to hear that that's their first train of thought, because I'm like, this is your health. This is your well being this is an investment in you, so you saying, Oh, it costs too much. You might as well just say, I'm not worth it. And to me, that breaks my heart.

Leaha Crawford 26:47
We're gonna stick a pin in that, because we're gonna bring you back on next week so we can expand and we can talk about it. All right. You've been listening to growth and grace. I am Leah Crawford. This is Julian Rosado, and I hope you enjoyed our show this week, and tune in next week, because we are going to continue this conversation, because we want to talk about you. Let's talk about you, and how you take care of you, and how you can start. I want to see the best version of me until next week. Y'all. Peace and blessings. Bye.
